Hilary R.I.P.

Sad to note the passing of Hilary, my Garmin GPS.

I accidentally dropped her on her head Thursday evening, and although she had been seeing stars afterwards, she was unable to acquire satellites. And a GPS which cannot acquire satellites is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard/ashtray on a motorbike/tits on a bull.

Being the sentimental type of fellow that I am, Hilary has already been replaced. But since we haven't yet decided on the new GPS' gender, it will remain unnamed for now. Selena looks like a runner, however.

Of course, I now find, having checked Hilary, that she actually *can* acquire satellites and is, to all intents and purposes, fully fucntional.

I discover this having shelled out mucho wonga for a new GPS *and* having deleted all my old GPS "favourites" on Hilary as part of a "master reset" process that was supposed to have sorted out Hilary's problems.

In essence, therefore, it seems that the satellites were "down" over the last few days. Who knew?

Certainly not the guy who, a few years ago, broke a camcorder, bought a new one in an emergency, and then found a few days later that the problem with the original camcorder was a design flaw that the manufacturer would repair as a product recall, even though the warranty had long lapsed.

So, despite the fact that I now have two GPS, I still don't know where I'm going. No worries, though, 'cos when I get there, I'll be able to do a nice two-camera video shoot...

Hilary got a little run up to Dublin yesterday, to see if she was behaving. 'Fraid not. Although she would acquire satellites, she was very quick to lose them and very slow to re-acquire them. Seems terminal...
